Western Row Interchange at IR-71
The Western Row Interchange is the collaborative culmination of John R. Jurgensen and the Ohio Department of Transportation’s efforts to provide for the city of Mason’s explosive commercial growth.

IR-71 at Western Row is part of a three-project development plan for the area by the City of Mason, Deerfield Township, and Warren County. In the past decade, Mason’s local commerce and the surrounding regions have grown rapidly. This expansion prompted a proposal back in 2017 to implement a full interchange.
Some notable features include:
- Signal updates and new signal installation
- Updated lighting
- Construction and modification of new and existing bridges (i.e., structure rehabilitation)
- Landscaped islands as well as new irrigation
- Multi-use (bike) path extensions along Western Row and Innovation Way
Before the project, IR-71 was half an interchange. Exiting to Western Row involved driving from IR-71 Northbound and getting back onto IR-71 Southbound. After the project’s estimated completion in July 2019, five ramps will be added in order to make the road a full interchange. Additionally, JRJ will construct lanes from Western Row to Kings Mills 741, a widened Innovation Way, and a resurfaced IR-71.
